It refers to Supreme Court once again reacting angrily on Union government for its failure to take harsh steps against persons failing to evict government-accommodation after losing entitlement to retain these. Union government has also failed to recover pending rent-dues from persons occupying government-bungalows. But it has become a repeat feature with nothing practical being done after last so many dates of hearing in the Court. It is time that
Apex Court
should finally punish rather than warning those responsible in the government who are patronising defaulters most of whom are VVIP defaulters. Only an immediate and single-line ‘throw-him-out’ order like was in case of Butasingh can serve the real purpose. Apex Court should also give permanent direction to take it as contempt of court if the allottee fails to vacate government-accommodation within say three months of losing entitlement.
Likewise strict-most action to recover pending rent-dues should be taken by freezing pension and other payable governments apart from other recovery-proceedings like bank-attachments etc.
